Membership Information

Open to independent businesses based in California that sell primarily books in the physical world and create community through bookselling. Traditional bookstores, pop-up bookstores, mobile bookstores, and other non-traditional bookselling that's primarily conducted in the physical world qualify for membership. (Don't have a brick and mortar location just yet? We would love to welcome you as a Provisional Bookstore Member).

Membership for bookstores: $200

*CALIBA does offer a quarterly payment option for Bookseller Members. If that is something you're interested in, please contact CALIBA Executive Director, Hannah Walcher 

Available to businesses or individuals planning to open a retail book business in California as defined by Bookstore Member or have an on-line only bookstore operated out of California. Provisional membership does not include voting rights. Once your bookstore is open you will need to upgrade to the Bookstore Member Type. 

On-line only and prospective bookstores: $100 

• Publisher membership covers all wholly-owned imprints, employees, and house sales reps; does not cover distribution clients.
• Commission Book Rep Group membership covers all employees, and reps operating in our region; does not cover rep-ed clients.
• Distributor membership covers all employees, and reps operating in our region; does not cover distribution clients.
• Book industry professionals (agents; media; publicists; book reviewers; etc); greeting card, gift, toy, and other non-book vendors; and book industry service providers.

Membership covers up to 6 Reps: $550

• Publisher membership covers all wholly-owned imprints, employees, and house sales reps; does not cover distribution clients.
• Commission Book Rep Group membership covers all employees, and reps operating in our region; does not cover rep-ed clients.
• Distributor membership covers all employees, and reps operating in our region; does not cover distribution clients.
• Book industry professionals (agents; media; publicists; book reviewers; etc); greeting card, gift, toy, and other non-book vendors; and book industry service providers.

Membership covers up to 3 sales reps: $250

• Publisher membership covers all wholly-owned imprints, employees, and house sales reps; does not cover distribution clients.
• Commission Book Rep Group membership covers all employees, and reps operating in our region; does not cover rep-ed clients.
• Distributor membership covers all employees, and reps operating in our region; does not cover distribution clients.
• Book industry professionals (agents; media; publicists; book reviewers; etc); greeting card, gift, toy, and other non-book vendors; and book industry service providers.

Individual Publisher, Sales Rep, and Book Industry Professional(s) not affiliated or covered by an existing Publisher Member: $150

Authors, illustrators, educators, and other friends of California indie bookstores: $50
