NEW MEMBER CORNER

Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural & Bookstore

Welcome to CALIBA, Tía Chucha's Centro Cultural & Bookstore!

Owners: Founders Luis J. Rodriguez, Trini Rodriguez, and Enrique Sanchez (nonprofit, no owners, just founders and a board of directors)

Established: 2001

About Our New Member: Tía Chucha’s Centro Cultural's mission is to transform communities in the Northeast San Fernando Valley and beyond through ancestral knowledge, the arts, literacy, and creative engagement. As the only independent bookstore in the Northeast San Fernando Valley, we make culturally relevant books and literacy programs accessible to a diverse, intergenerational BIPOC community. Guided by a lens of social justice and transformative healing, our curated programs and literature center our culture, history, and stories.

LA WILDFIRES UPDATE

The fires are contained, but the work to rebuild continues. We will continue to update the LA Wildfires Mutual Aid Google document to share ways that you can support bookstores affected by the fires. You can find this document plus resources for booksellers affected by the fire on the CALIBA LA Fires Resource page.

FROM THE ABA: URGE CONGRESS TO REVERSE TARIFFS

American Booksellers Association logo

"The tariffs instituted by the Trump Administration are hurting the U.S. economy. Small businesses and their communities will suffer the consequences—increases in costs, decreases in spending and local tax revenue, supply chain disruptions, and the real possibility of increased inflation and a recession. An immediate course correction is critical but will only happen if federal lawmakers hear from small businesses like yours in droves." Read the full article and send your message to congress now.
