TIPS FOR USING THE HOLIDAY CATALOG

The 2024 CALIBA Holiday Catalogs have shipped to stores!

CALIBA creates the Holiday Catalog to help booksellers sell books and support the organization. With the help of the other regionals, we have compiled a list of ideas for making the most of your holiday catalog.

  • Place in other retail outlets in your area (think coffee shops, grocery stores, etc.)
  • Stuff in bags, hand out at your events and other community events.
  • Bring it to local independent living communities and take orders.
  • Have staffers choose a title they think will do well and have a competition to see which title sells the most copies. And the winning bookseller gets a prize!
  • Build a store display. Carry this throughout the store with mini displays in different sections.
  • Slip a coupon to your catalog.
  • Include it in book shipments.
  • Utilize the catalog resource graphics for prints, social media, your website, bookmarks, and more!Download the catalog resources.

Have other ideas on how bookstores can use the Holiday Catalog? Share it on Discord or email Valentina!

NEED A HAND AROUND THE BOOKSTORE FOR AN EVENT OR DURING THE HOLIDAY RUSH?

CALIBA has created a form for booksellers offering to fill in who could use a bit of extra cash. This is not intended to be a job search, but simply filling a temporary gap in staffing during difficult times.

If you are looking for some help, we have a few booksellers that have already filled out the form! Find a Substitute Bookseller Here (Login Required). If you are having trouble accessing your account, email Valentina.

If you would like to be a Substitute Bookseller, fill out this form!

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day!

1- We wanted to give a shoutout to former CALIBA ED Calvin Crosby at the King's English Bookshop in Salt Lake City with his recent recommendations list for Indigenous Peoples' Day. "The most colonialist named bookshop in America is now Native owned. Land Back."

2- In recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day, Once Upon a Time Bookstore shared this video to acknowledge that the store and the Montrose Shopping Park occupies land of the Chumash, Tongva (Gabrieleno), and Fernandeño Tataviam people. Thank you for sharing such beautiful titles!

Bookstore Birthdays

3-Mrs. Dalloway's in Berkeley is celebrating 20 years this weekend!

4- Arvida Book Co in North Tustin celebrated 4 years with a birthday bash, looks like some folks dressed up as bookish characters!

5- Timbre Books in Ventura will be celebrating 4 years this Saturday with a storytime, raffle, and treats. 10% of all sales will go to their local nonprofit, SOAR.

6-East Village Bookshop in Sacramento is hosting a Halloween Scavenger Hunt filled with spooky landmarks! What a fun way to explore the community!
