CALIBA OFFICE STAFF CHANGES

After four wonderful years with CALIBA, Emma is off to pursue other endeavors. We are so thankful for all of the hard work, creativity and energy she has brought to the office. Emma just completed her last day, but will be assisting in training our newest staff member, Alecia. Thank you, Emma!

WELCOME, ALECIA!

Hi all, I'm Alecia, the new CALIBA support staff member. I'm excited to join CALIBA because I believe in the power of community and the vital role independent booksellers play in connecting readers with stories. Before I joined CALIBA I worked as a graphic designer, creating digital marketing assets for Williams-Sonoma, Inc. When I'm off the clock, I work on my pop-up bookstore, Wallflower Bookshop; try to keep my Duolingo streak going (1+ years) and spend time reading the many ARCs on my TBR list. I can't wait to collaborate with all of you and help champion California's amazing bookselling community!

TIPS FOR USING THE HOLIDAY CATALOG

The 2024 CALIBA Holiday Catalog has shipped to stores!

Table display including titles from the 2023 Holiday Catalog

Catalog tip #8: Build a store display! Carry this throughout the store with mini displays in different sections. In this display Alice Ever After displayed both the cover art winner and titles featured in the catalog.

CALIBA creates the Holiday Catalog to help booksellers sell books and support the organization. With the help of the other regionals, we have compiled a list of ideas for making the most of your holiday catalog that you can find here.

Have other ideas on how bookstores can use the Holiday Catalog? Share it on Discord or email Valentina!

Note: All holiday catalog titles have an extra 2% discount on Ingram!

No code needed.

ABA DEIC NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW, OCT 25

The ABA’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee (DEIC) serves as a sounding board and advisory council on issues related to antiracism, equity, access, and representation facing the bookselling community and ABA.

At this time, to ensure the council is as representative of membership as possible in terms of members’ racial identity, neurodiversity, disability, gender identity, and sexual identity and their stores’ format, size, and region, we are specifically looking for new members who identify in one or more of the following ways:

  • Midwest bookseller or bookstore owner
  • Bookseller or bookstore owner in California
  • Pop-up store bookseller or bookstore owner
  • Bookseller or bookstore owner who identify as Latinx/Hispanic/Chicano/x

Booksellers are invited to nominate themselves or another bookseller!

Nominations are due by 8:59 pm PT on Friday, October 25, 2024 and will then be reviewed by current DEIC members and ABA staff who together will select the new members to fill the empty seats.
