APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR CARLA GRAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR EMERGING BOOKSELLER-ACTIVISTS

The Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation is nowaccepting applicationsfor the Carla Gray Memorial Scholarship for Emerging Bookseller-Activists. The winning bookseller will be awarded a year-long scholarship for professional development, which includes travel and hotel to attend Winter Institute 2025, travel and hotel to attend their 2025 regional fall tradeshow and a $1,000 stipend to fund a community outreach project. The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, at 5 p.m. EST. New eligibility requirements and the application can be foundhere.

HUT LANDON TO RETIRE FROM MRS. DALLOWAY'S

Hut Landon, the former executive director of the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association (NCIBA), now part of the California Independent Booksellers Alliance (CALIBA), will retire from day-to-day bookselling at the Berkeley, Calif., store on September 28, although he will still assist the store in other matters. Landon has long been a fixture in the Northern California bookselling landscape; he owned Landon Books, based first in Novato and then Marin County, Calif., between 1984 and 1999, and served as ED of NCIBA from 1999 to 2015, and runs a weekly e-newsletter, “Hut’s Place: Weekly Words About Books.” - sign up for Hut's Place here!
