We have witnessed an overwhelming outpour of love and support from bookstores in the face of the tragedy in LA. This is why we say indie bookstores are essential to the life of our communities:
- Camino Books, in San Diego, celebrating Silver Dolphin Books' donation to their LA Fires Book Drive.
- Diesel Bookstore, in Santa Monica, welcomed all to gather in their safe space.
- Dym Books & Boba, in Pasadena, offered their space for donations supporting families affected by the Eaton Canyon Fire.
- The Frugal Frigate Bookstore, in Redlands, raised money to support their local coffee shop, Slow Bloom Cafe.
- Godmothers, in Summerland, held a community book drive to collect and give out children's books.
- Judging by the Cover, in Fremont, committed 10% of their sales towards Mutual Aid LA.
- The Last Bookstore Studio City, in Los Angeles, let customers know they were open and to BYOC (bring your own charger + coffee).
- North Figueroa Bookshop, in Los Angeles, has started a laundry fund to hand out quarters and Tide pods for people wanting to wash ash from their clothes.
- Octavia’s Bookshelf, in Pasadena, became a mutual aid pit stop for the community.
- The Ripped Bodice, in Culver City, has N95 masks available for those who need them.
- Skylight Books and Skylight Booksellers Union, in Los Angeles, is collecting plant seeds native to Southern California to help Altadena Seed Library.
- Vroman’s Bookstore's Mr. Steve, in Pasadena, posing with books before dropping them off for donation at the Pasadena Convention Center.
- Zibby’s Bookshop, in Santa Monica, re-opened their doors on Wednesday and are giving away books to anyone who lost their home in the fires.
